Setting up a new home wired network

Here is a picture of how it currently stands. Still need to mive the modem to here along with adding some power sockets.

Did the bracket have holes to mount sideways? The ones I have found only have screw holes at the back (hence I considered 'hanging' it vertically)

Colour-code those cables! Then you'll be able to identify which cable does what at a glance.

And fit a hood or something over the whole assembly to keep everything dust-free. Either something that can be dismounted easily or something with a door.
 
My 24 port Cat6 patch panel was like £25, they're not an expensive part of such a project. Interesting idea to use masking tape on the unused sockets, might copy that...
 
Yes I did realise afterwards I should have bought different coloured cables after I bought them!!

I'll probably buy some plugs to put in the unused ports, the tape was just a temporary measure for now
 
I think I'll need to move it anyway so that I can put the modem to that side. The master socket is directly through the wall at the side of it so will need to relocate that too.
