I want to set up a simple LAN party. Its going to be 4 people playing offline.
I have a simple router and the ethernet cables for each machine.
A few questions:

Are their any basic network issues other then plugging them all in and maybe configuring IP's that I need to know about?

Are their any games that only need a single copy of the game to install on each PC to play together?

Can one of the computers that are being used to play the games act as the host server if the computer has enough power?

Any other stuff that I may need to know would also be nice.
Cheers.

Knowing what games you want to play would help with specific setup issues etc. Most modern games will need to be unique copies (correct me if I am wrong)

As for the network, a 4 port router will do

Check out Open Arena, it's the open source version of Quake 3. Iirc Quake 3 will do a cd key check for LAN games. I can't remember if you need a dedicated server for this though (ie a non playing box)
