setting up a small network for gaming (LAN)

Im at university, and a few of us have laptops and games like command and conquer and we were wondering if it is possible to set up a little LAN so we can play eachother, say 4 people in total, would we need a switch or a router or something? I'm ok with computers, but not with networks.

best thing to get would be a switch.

A switch would be the cheapest and simplest solution

You can pick up an 8 port switch for under £20 these days (I don't think they still do 4 port ones, and for the price difference I would get the extra ports)

Yep i am getting an 8 port one for about £9 new! What a bargain!
