Hi all,

I want to set up a site to sell my PC hardware as at the moment I sell quite a lot on auctions boards etc.

Was wondering what I would need to do to register and what costs are involved?

Would appricate any advice,

Thanks

Guys would it be best to register the domain at 123reg then use another someone else for hosting? or are 123reg ok for that aswell?

Thanks

Cheap hosting = www.servage.net (pretty much unlimited everything, bandwidth, domains etc, but can be slow at times and db connections can be iffy)

Reliable good hosting = www.catalyst2.com (used them for years for important sites and no downtime so far [apart from once when my site was hacked, but thats my fault]).

who'd want "but can be slow at times and db connections can be iffy" though?

catalyst2 are OK for windows hosting, but I would guess the guy is asking for Linux hosting - check OChostreview

good hosting can be had for around £30 for 12 months :)

Having used many many different hosting companies (including some of the best around) I now use dreamhost.com. They're pretty decent for everything I want, and to be honest unless you're running a mission critical website I'd recommend them.

The huge amounts of disc space is great for backups as well. My girlfriend uses them to do a rsync backup of her 30gb+ digital photography collection - something that I should really think about doing!

Thanks guys,

As I mostly use at the moment auction boards to sell my stuff, i accept all the common online payments etc. Is it easy to set up a credit/debit account so people can pay straight with their cards?

Thanks

Me :)

It isnt for any critical sites and it is £4.50/month and you litterally have as many domains, databases, bandwidth etc as you want, unlimited emails too.

Comes in useful when you host lots of silly little sites as well as for testing database driven stuff.

Plus it isnt always flakey, but can be at times.

If you don't want to use Paypal then you really have to setup a Business Bank account and use something like Worldpay.

I've used Worldpay before and its a great system, but was a pain to get my Bank to send worldpay all the confirmation they wanted that I had a business bank account!

Hi thanks for reply,

I dont mind using online payment methods (I use paypal, nocheck etc now).

But what I also wanted to do was have the ability to pay via card e.g like when you order something from an online store and the money is taken from your bank account.

Thanks
