Behind you... Naked!
Im having a lot of trouble here... Cannot work out why?

I want either MiNT ( Currently on with v11 / 64Bit ) or Ubuntu or Debian will be fine too

Now, I am using a Samsung R60Plus Laptop and it has the X1250 Graphics chip.

The snag is, that I just cannot get it to see it.

The Automatic drivers does not show anything, and I have done all teh updates with apt-get update and dist-upgrade

I have installed the fglrx driver ( I was informed that xorg-driver-fglrx is no longer supported and fglrx can be used instead ) I done the dempmod -a, but when I try aticonfig I get told that I dont have an ATI card in there... I do however have the ATI Control panel etc.

I am at a complete loss?

Im on mint now and I have done this via apt but when I was running ubuntu I manually installed the ATI drivers and I had the exact same thing

Now, I have just chucked in a Mandrake 2010 CD and running it LIVE gave me an option to run under Compiz and so I selected that for a laugh and sure enough I have fully wibbly windows and 3D Desktop etc so Mandrake runs it fine.

I dont want to go Mandrake however, I want a Debian based distro.

Anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

Oh dont I frigging know it my friend.
All my Desktop Cards are nVidia... The Laptop was given to me so it wasnt a choice.

But Mandriva seems to drive it perfectly well... I just cannot set it up myself?

My sons has SIS on it, and several years ago I was ok as setting up X with SIS or my persdonal favourite, Matrox cards but these days I seem to be a bit of a dunce in that area, and ATI are weird... I had no issues messing about with settup ing a Desktop with an X1800 but when I did the same thign on the Laptop... It seemed top go on just fine but in the end it was still saying that I dont have an ATI card?

Oh yes, and thanks for the kink.

However, its not Compiz that I am having the issues... Compiz is all in fully, everything is in just fine, its just not doing any of it because it seems to not know the ATI card is being driven by ATI drivers?

Well, I have been busy and not got back to this so sorry about that.

Well, ok, I have done a few experiments now and I have come to the conclusion, that either, I am a knob or this Laptop hates me.

I have tried a number of options here but none of them seem to want to play nicely for me?

I just cannot get the ATI drivers to work for me at all. At best it wrecks the scren and I can then kill the drivers off and at worst, I have had to do a fresh install but not once have I managed to get the drivers in!

Well, ok, Mandrake 2010 runs it just fine.

I no longer want Compiz in, but I do fancy at the very least 3D so I can play dream Chess in 3D or GLTRON or any Linux game at all really without having to wait 3 weeks for a screen refresh.

I have also followed the links fullyto the letter and still nothing.. And on fresh installs too!

I have pretty much given up TBH!

Im going to give it one last shot tonight cos I think I have my 160GB Drive working again ( Well it works fine on a PC when testing it ) and this means that I can twiddle without wrecking the current working Sabayon Setup on it now
