My friend recently joined AOL broadband and has had the Netgear DG834G free router delivered. There is no network adaptor supplied so she has bought a WG111T so she can have a wireless connection and the router can be in another room beside the telephone line.

I have a few queries on the set up.

There is no installation disk for the router. The router installation files are obviously contained within the AOL installation disk. It was my intention to do a manual set up of the router and not install any AOL software. Is there a way to do this? I have the setup disk for the WG111T adaptor.

I have been advised earlier that the best way is to configure the router with the Ethernet connection then set up the wireless connection. I am finding the network wizard on XP a bit heavy going and I am not sure which selections to make at each stage, what the sequence is, or even which wizard to use. It is XP Home edition SP2.

This is a single computer connecting to the internet through a wireless router in another room. The only reason for wireless is the difficulty in getting the telephone extension wires into the room with the computer, laminated floors and recently decorated. The connection is currently a standard dial up modem with a different ISP and a long telephone extension cable plugged when required.

Can anyone give me a step by step guide to setting this up?

Juts received my AOL router and installed it the other day, exact same one DG834G, cant help on the wireless adapter as im just using the ethernet as only having it connected to my PC.

Theres no software at all required to set the router up, just plug it in open IE and put in the http:// for the config page for the router (its written on the base of the router, Default Access http://192. etc...) it will then ask for username/password which is admin/password by default (again on the base of the router), when it comes up you get 2x options automatic install or manual, just select automatic and of it goes and sets itself up, after a few seconds it will ask for your username/password (may have Guest written in, mine did if so just delete), just put in your sign on details for AOL, [email protected], and your AOL password, apply it thats it your done, and online, well easy. :)
