setting up edifier m60. 'signal path' question

So rather tan 3.3mm analog from mobo to speakers I've just set them up with a USB-A 3.0 out, from the pc to USB-C in, on the speakers, disabled the motherboard EQ and just running a flat EQ in the edifier phone app... so I belive I've bypassed the motherboards DAC by doing that.

It sounds better, I guess the speakers have a better DAC than my mobo.
Computers are electrically very noisy devices. Even if a computer uses a high-quality DAC chip, the DAC built into the speakers can still sound better due to reduced noise / RFI.

I've just purchased these speakers and looking at the photo of the circuit board that has been posted you can just make out 22M on the TSSOP which refers to the Texas Instruments TA5822M closed loop class D amplifier

I've managed to get them sounding good now, I ditched the metal stands and bought some angled high density foam stands for about a tenner.
They are very directional so you really need the tweeters pointing at your head

That's good to hear. I've only had mine a couple of days and I am quite impressed. I managed to get them for £127 which I thought was a good price. Have you updated to the latest firmware v2.41?

Absolute bargain at that price.
I updated the firmware when I first got them but I couldn't tell you what version it is without checking it.

My speakers are currently on 2.31 and there is an update 2.41 that fixes muddy sound around the 150Hz frequency. I've not updated them yet.

Oooh interesting.. As that's very close to the frequency range I was having bother with...and I've had to use some heavy EQing to get them sounding better.
I'll be sure to check my firmware when I get chance... Thanks for the info!

That might be the room, upto 300hz typically is the room.

It's a bit of both in my own experience. I've fettled with positioning and stands etc but that only got me so far and it's not an issue I had with my outgoing desktop speakers. Hence having to go wild on the eq.

So whilst the edifier are objectively better than my old speakers the boom/wollyness around 125hz ish is absolutely baked into the amp/dac /firmware

When you start the Edifier ConneX app up it tells you if there is an update available. If you go into the app settings it tells you the current version

Thanks.. I meant info on what improvement /changes are in the firmware..
Does it say that there too? I'm not able to check at the moment.

I think it mentions it when it notifies you that an update is available. Also, if you Google M60 speakers 2.41 AI tells you what the update is for. I'm not at home at the moment so can't check what the app says.
