setting up edifier m60. 'signal path' question

I think the majority of people spending just over £100 on a pair of desktop speakers probably wouldn't have access to specialist test equipment. I like the sound of the M60's and think they are an excellent buy for the money

You're really not helping anyone.
It's not what anyone's realistically going to do, so unless you have experience of said speakers, may I politely suggest you don't comment further on this particular topic?

fair enough but once you have it then use it on several speakers/subs.. Dayton have a cheaper USB microphone about £40, you can use what ASR have shown as correction values. But you're still guessing as each room is different.

Lol......

Explain?

If you have a (rough) estimation of an issue with a speaker, then it's worth trying the fix for that speaker, being aware of it may be different to your room. Anyway I have UMIK-1 /REW so not an issue. At least better than...

no way of listening to a speaker and know where to correct, in width, gain or frequency.

I've not been able to update the firmware on mine yet as I'm away from home, but I'll try to remember to update on here when I get chance.

@Zaxxan

I've updated the firmware and the sound signature has changed quite considerably.

Dare I say my problem no longer exists?
I've not had chance to really test it yet properly but it seems my boomyness has gone.. Which is exactly what I was hoping for when the update said 'issues fixed' around the frequency I was having bother with.. So thanks for the heads up on that!

I'm still gonna use a bit of EQ for fine tuning to my taste and environment but that's a longer job as i listen to a verity or sources from FLAC to internet radio, the latter of which can be quite inconsistent in quality... But that's gonna take some smaller tweaks over a longer period to get it bang on.

I'm very happy.. I guess edifier realised there was an issue, so fair play to them for releasing new firmware.

I found the room eq system on wiim to work very well, you can use phone mic ideally Apple or plug usb mic into it and it even loads up umik calibration file!

@mattyfez
That sounds like a good result and it's nice to see Edifier releasing updates that actually make a difference. I've not updated mine yet as I'm testing with different sources, so far I'm really pleased with them.

I'm not sure theres any way to roll back the firmware once updated, so maybe dont update it if you are super happy with how the already are, as it does change the sound a fair bit.. I wouldnt like to tell you one way or the other lol!

All I can say is im happy now hahah!

Just to add, i've only tested on analog input from my mobo, i've not tested with digital/usb USB input yet, thats a job for another day!

Analogue input most likely digitises the inputs prior to processing, so digital sources likely to be superior option, but make sure there is no upsampling going on in the speakers (not sure how you can check) also you don't want 44.1khz PCM to be upsampled to 48khz.

Probably want to use exclusive mode, with foobar I can see what my AVR is receiving, if I don't set it correctly it'll show 48khz from a audio CD/44khz PCM. I do notice the difference, something bad sound quality when it happens.

The Edifier M60 support page has a page for documents and firmware but there are no firmware releases on there so it looks like they can only be updated via the app which reminds you of an update every time you start it.
