if this is in the wrong section please move but was not sure which sub category to put it in

basically 4k tv comes tuesday, my monitor is 1080p but hoping to do some gaming on the 4k screen at least try it out, gpu and tv are hdmi2.0 so should do 3840x2160 at 60Hz

Am i right in saying i can't just duplicate displays like normal? will i have to set the TV as the main source everytime i want to play and leave the monitor off/disconnected.

anyone who can shed any light on a easy way to do it that would be great, if it makes any difference the TV is native 100Hz

Extend the displays and some games have the option to select which monitor they run on, others you'll have to set the main monitor manually in display properties.

If you're only going to be using one at a time, Windows + P will bring up a quick menu which allows you to quickly select which screen you use.

Cheers for that not something I knew so will come in quite handy :)

Thanks for this i did what you said, had some teeth sucking moments where the gpu was having problems displaying 60Hz but went into driver settings and changed the screen manually, si like you say i just use the main 1080p monitor to get prepped and then just windows+p to switch to the 4k tv. works really well so thanks again for that. i tried running the monitor and TV at the same time but it don't work or at least not something i can figure out. only problem now is the 4k tv has made me want a 4k monitor lol.
