Setting up iPad for shared use with child

Since picking up a macbook for work/personal use I'm finding I very rarely use my iPad so I'd like to setup it up for my son to use (kid apps, youtube etc) however I'd like to keep my apps/data on there (mail etc) in case I need it as a contingency.

Is there any way I can put all my apps into a single folder and password protect it? (have seen a number of third party apps for older or jailbroken iOS versions but not so much for iOS 9).

Have taken a brief look at the Restrictions settings but that seems quite convoluted.

Any pointers appreciated, thanks.

I can see where Apple are coming from on this, make it impossible to setup dual use or decent level of control so that the consumer is pushed towards buying multiple iPads. One (or more) devices per person, not the other way round.
