Setting up Matrix RAID

Using an Asus P5WDH, I have 3 HDDs installed - 74GB WD Raptor and 2 x 320GB WD320. I had intended to install OS and Applications on the 74GB Raptor and configure the 2 320 GB disks using Matrix RAID to provide 1 striped and 1 mirrored volume.

Are there two routes to achieving this? Having had an initial look at some stuff on the Intel site it seems to imply I could do no RAID config at BIOS level and just install Windows as normal to the 74GB disk and then subsequently install the Intel Storage Manager software and configure my 2 remaining disks as the 2 RAID volumes.

However that doesn't tie up with MOBO documentation that says I need to set the SATA config in the BIOS to RAID and use the Matrix RAID utility (Ctrl-I) to set up the volumes. Then during Windows install I need to load the RAID driver (F6 floppy approach).

So far the documentation/info on Intel Matrix RAID and interaction with Windows seems a little sketchy - any pointers welcome!

In the BIOS I configured SATA as RAID (under IDE configuration) and enabled the on-board serial SATA BOOTROM. I then went into the RAID controller BIOS and assigned two drives to a RAID0 and left the 3rd by itself. Back into the BIOS I then set the BOOT order so that the RAID was before the single disk. Then the usual F6 + drivers when installing windows.

This was for booting off of a RAID though.
