I must apologise in advance if this problem seems unworthy of a posting here, but never the less i am at a loss with what to do next.

I bought the netgear dg834g v3 on ebay from someone selling off their freebie from aol. My internet provider is talktalk. I tried to input my user name and password through the aol installation software and actually got it onto the router, but the process was interupted when the inevitable check with aol caused an incorrect username input (ending in talktalk.net).

So the question is can i access the router in another way that can allow me to correctly input the username, password, 13 digit key etc, without having to use an installation cd. (the one that came with my talktalk is only geared up for use with one of their modems).

Great if someone can help!

hi loadsamoney, havent been able to try the router configuration yet, but just wondered if i could ask you about another problem thats been bugging me a little lately.
Occasionally when i turn on my computer, it gets to the choose user screen (xp home edition i think) but then wont let me select a user. The mouse pointer still moves but wont activate button, cant do it using the keyboard either. Im gonna remove other users soon anyway, but just wondered if this is something to worry about? The only way out of this when it happens is to reset the computer. Im just worried that one day i reset the computer and it will still be the same!
cheers!

Thanks for the info on setting up the router, i was able to connect to it using the ethernet cable and input my username and password for my talktalk account. However when i then try to gain access to the internet, i am automatically directed to a talktalk webpage which informs me that you do not recognise the username and password given. Even though i know these work cos i used them successfully using the wired broadband modem i have been using up till now. I think it is something to do with no having used the setup cd from talktalk whereby you are asked (if you are not using one of the routers sent with talktalk) to input the username and password using whatever software before running the talktalk setup cd again. Here a check is carried out to 'detect' the router being used, but each time the test is run it cannot find my router, even though i input everything it needs. What should i do next?!!

Yes i first did the automatic setup and stored my username and password. After when it didnt work i did it all manually too. I know it should work the username and passwords i gave are correct and yet whenever i access the internet throught the router i am automatically redirected to a talktalk screen saying they do not recognise the username and password. They seem to make a big thing about having to use 'their' modems and routers, and that if any problem should arise with another router you choose to use they will not help. Im starting to wonder if ANY other router rather than the one you have to buy through them will work. The username and password i am using with the routher is no different from the one i have been using with my wired router. The wired router was a tiscali one, but when i input the username and password it worked first time.
