Setting up on Register1 host

Just ordered 2 years after some recommendations from this site.

Am trying to set up my email and website but am really struggling.

Could someone tell me the POP3, SMTP server details please.

Also where the hell do you stick your index.html file?

Have stuck it in the root of the server and mainwebsite_html\index.html but it's still not showing up!

POP3 and SMTP is usually mail.domain.com

Is there a public_html folder at all? If there is put your website in there

All I have is:

mainwebsite_cgi
mainwebsite_html
mainwebsite_perl

Dreamweaver has automatically set the folder as home/admin/mainwebsite_???

I'm not being lame here, but why not ask the the company wher you ordered the space from or at least check the faq's

Have you tried logging in using another FTP client, Windows Explorer for example?

[url]ftp://username:[email protected][/url]

Type the above into your 'My Computer' address bar.

That way you can check the folders that are actually there rather than letting Dreamweaver create them

I've logged in through FlashFXP.

All the folders in the root.
bin
boot
dev
etc
home
lib
media
mnt
opt
proc
root
sbin
selinux
srv
sys
tmp
usr
var

Root sounds good but I'm denied access :confused:

Here I can get a fast response

Register1 are fantastic at replying to support tickets.

Not had to wait more than an hour before - quickest time from submitting the ticket to getting a reply was 5 mins!

Right. Scrap the index.html Q. As i've only just bought the domain a couple of hours ago, the DNS won't have updated.

May possibly be the case for the web server aswell?

If it is a .com the DNS is (almost) instantly updated. .co.uk still takes up to 48 hours. Your site and related email won't work until then.

You really should read the information they sent you as it will say this there. I'm also one for contacting them rather than posting on a forum! Register1 are very good, you will have a reply in no more than an hour and at least it wouldn't be a guess like what you will get from here.
