I am setting aol internet up for a friend. It connects without a problem using an ethernet cable but when I try to connect wirelessly, it gets an invalid ip address. Im using the supplied netgear wireless router, which is a dg834g v3.

Thanks for any help :)

Is the network using WEP ? I know when I went onto AOL I had the same issue and I had to put in the password on wireless system to identify an connect to the network

Ive tried doing that and it won't connectm but I disabled it and it still wouldn't connect. The wireless adapter keeps saying its available to connect but when I select connect, nothing happens and then it pops up again saying to connect

Thanks for your help Loki :) It was very much appreciated :)

I managed to finally get it working. Im not sure what the problem was but I re-checked if there where any firewalls but there wasn't even one on the computer, so that wasn't it. I went through the whole process about another 10 times, from start to finish. It completely stopped working even connected with an ethernet cable for a while but then all of a sudden it worked wirelessly.

Hi there,

A friend of mine has the same router with AOL. I went over to configure it but I cannot get an public IP address. I entered in all the details such as username/password but no luck. I tried the wizard but no luck.

Can you help?

Hello trigger,

the only thing that I may have done to get the wireless working was changing the channel the wireless works on. It was set to 1 by default and according to the AOL set-up manual, it says to try 1, 7 and 13 (I think). I set it to 13 in the end and its working now. It might help, I hope it does, but try all the channels and see what happens :)

It was in the router setup (192.168.0.1 - username: admin, password: password) im not sure which menu on the left its in but if you go through them, you should be able to see something along the lines of which channel its set-up on.

Once logged in to the router, it says "do you need a username and password to log on to your isp?" and in there put your aol username and password.

I hope this helps :)
