Hi guys, any help would be much apppciated. i am trying to set up a wireless router for my mate as he just sign up broadband with Tiscali. The router is a Dlink G604T wireless ADSL Modem. Follow instrcution it ask us to enter address on the IE (192.168.1.1) However when we do this nothing seem to be happen like the manual mention. When we connect the LAN cable to the comp it bring us to the gateway config page. I have follow all the instruction Tiscali have provided to us but when we do a search for our router we cant find it on Dlink utility. We picked up 2 other routers around the area but we cant see our one. if you knoww what i mean, any idea?

So are you trying to connect to other computers (wireless) or just the main computer via Ethernet (lan)

Computer , ethernet cable to router , adsl cable into the router to the phone socket.

192.168.1.1 into IE . . make sure no WWW etc if this doesnt work try doing a reset on the router, it should say in the manual

just main computer to the internet using wireless router. we are trying to set up the router via its gateway (192.168.1.1) but keep saying page cannot be display on the IE. Do i have to plug the ethernet cable to the wireless router and the computer first before we can log on to the gateway? i thought this is suppose to be a wireless why do we need ethernet cable to get it set up?

Yes, to configure the router the first time you need to use a cable. Then access the router Admin pages with Internet Explorer. Turn on, setup and configure the wireless while using the cable. Does the manual not expalin all of this ?

Yes, you need to connect the ethernet cable to your main computer network card, then to the router port 1. Then try and connect.

Well yeah but you need to setup the isp settings and wireless setting before the wireless magic happends

ok got the wireless configured but we still cant find our router on the network list. we picked up two other routers around the area. Do we have to set the router utility to the same channel as the show on the gateway page?

it didnt say u have to connect the cable for the first time use

You don't need to worry about the channel.

Give the router a name in the SSID box.
Ensure that the SSID is set to be broadcast, this is the 'router name' you should see on your wireless PC. I suggest altering the default name to something else other than DLINK or whatever it came set as. This can later be set to 'do not broadcast' if you wish.

Double check under the Advanced tab and under Wireless Management make sure Enable Access List is unchecked. Save the settings Tools, System Commands, Save All, Back, Restart router.

Just for the initial testing period, and only for the testing period, turn off all of the encryption.

for the love of god i still cant get the wireless router to connect wirelessly. i followed instruction (in details) from Dlink website and ISP manual (tiscali). i can browse the net using the router with the Ethernet cable hooked up but my wireless PCI cant seem to find the router. I have also run the Utility that allow the router to communicate with the computer but when this utility is running it keep getting "connection timeout" error anyone know how can i solve this problem. I cant see what could cause this problem, i know that the PCI wireless is working also the router.

Try a reset on the router to put it back to it's factory defaults. Then start again. There should be instructions in the manual on how to reset the router.

Also try Netstumbler to view the wireless networks in your area, see if that can detect your router.

i have try reset to factory setting many times but we still cant find the router when searching for it. we use both windows own networking and Dlink utility it still wont work
