I am I correct in thinking I need a wired connection to set up WPA on a wireless router. Cannot seem to do it with wireless only.

Thanks, thats what I thought. It's for a friend of mine & he doesn't have an ethernet card. Anyway that can be got over.

Thanks for the suggestions. He is using it at the moment with no security, that's why I am concerned.
If I try to alter to WEP or WPA as it is, it immediately breaks the wireless connection without giving me a chance to enter a code No. so cannot get back in to set up security. That's why I suspected it needed a wired connection. I wondered if I could connect his router to my PC & set up WPA on the router and then go back to his and set up his PC. Would this work.

Tried to set it up for him today but nothing I tried would work, just could not establish a wireless link. Tried WPA, WPA2, WEP, nothing worked. I entered a phraseword and created a key, took it to his house and set up his computer with the same settings. Couldn't connect.
Tried all settings I could find. The only thing I could see that didn't make sense was creating a key in the router the letters appeared in upper case but doing the same for his computer although the key was the same the letters were in lower case.
