Ok guys i'm really caught in the middle here, i'm looking at getting a new monitor , now i'm a hardcore (once a semi-pro) gamer so the monitor must be of a high performance.

So i'm just wandering whether to go with something like a 3ms lcd monitor or get a Samsung Syncmaster 997mb crt (these i know are excellent and are regularly used at cpl events across the world)?

The 1 thing that's mainly putting me off the lcd's are the proneness to dead pixels and bleeding, now i can pick up the samsung crt for around £130inc which is excellent value for the monitor!

*note i'm looking for something around 19-20inch no bigger really

so guys let me know ** suggestions and thoughts

have you ever used a TFT before? i don't think you will ever know whether the TFT would be suitable for you as a hard core gamer until you tried it. Some modern models like the VX92 for instance offer very good responsiveness, however, some people still dont find them right for really major gaming. best bet is to try and test one somewhere otherwise it might be safer to stick with a CRT

Its a well known fact a top rated CRT will out perform any LCD currently available, but the CRT`s look crap on a desk, so most compromise. Only way to tell is try before you buy with LCD screens.

You've overstated the case a bit there...CRTs aren't without issues, mostly geometry related. LCDs can also do very impressive colours and clarity...not to mention can mitigate headaches and eyestrain for some people.
