Purchased this game yesterday and im really enjoying it. It is a little simplified, but its still really enjoyable.

Screenshots to follow.

How does it compare to Settlers II? Last time I checked that was considered the benchmark of Settlers games (at least in my books).

I loved settlers and settlers 2. They went down hill after that, last one i played was 5 and the multiplayer sucked!

Would love for this to be good! is there a demo around?

Well compared to the other settlers i have to say its not as complicated. No gold, coal mines etc, no foresters, not much choice of buildings, but that makes it easier to play, less stress with micromanaging.

There should be a demo around somewhere.

See that's a downside for me. I used to love those little foresters and the like.

edit:

Having had a google it looks like The Settlers II 10th Anniversary is the one for me.

its a good game but i prefere the originals, i liked having the geologists, finding coal etc and setting up the mines over the ore deposits the geologists found.

Compared to the other games, I don't like it far too RTS not enough of the things that made Settlers...Settlers.

On its own, I like it, completed most of the single player.

so they took the fun parts out. the best bits were watching them gather wood and ore and the buildings going up in stages.

I'd have to play Settlers II again, but for me the original has always been the best. Just the fun of placing farms in a big flat plain to get the most fields, having enough wood and stone to build, mines to pay the knights etc.

/runs off to buy settlers 2 anniversery edition.

I remember getting settlers on my Amiga600. Loved that game. After Settlers 4 it became a completely different game. Until then it was still the same concept.
