I have recently bought myself a Cambridge Audio 540R V2 AV Receiver and have been having a good play with it. I'm looking for a bit of advice on cables and general setup. Currently I have my DVD, PC, Freeview, PS2, Xbox & 360 all connecting to my TV (32LX2R) & the AV reciever like this.
DVD - optical to AV (DVD) & HDMI to TV (HDMI/HDMI)
PC - optical to AV (CD) & DVI to TV (HDMI/DVI)
Freeview - scart/component cable (Video1) to AV
Ps2 - composite/Optical (Video2) to AV
Xbox - Optical to AV (Video2) & advanced scart to TV (AV1)
360 - Component/Optical (Video2)
AV Receiver - Cambridge Audio Component Cable & S-Video cable for OSD
(hope that makes sense!)
Firstly is there a cable available for the Xbox that will give me the optical out & a s-video connection? Why microsoft felt the need to only include the optical out on the advanced scart Not had any luck so far... found a few VGA + Optical cables but I cant run the VGA through the AV Receiver and dont need the HD support as I have a PAL Xbox. I also want a cable for the PS2 that will output to the AV receiver via S-Video. Does such a cable exist? Composite really doesnt offer a fantastic picture quality. Is it better to run both my Xbox & PS2 via scart straight into the TV? I'm just trying to keep my cabling as minimal and as tidy as possible!
As you may have noticed I'm running a lot of optical cables through the same input (Video2), now I have a feeling it's going to be too expensive if they do exist but are there such things as optical breakout boxes? I'm getting fed up with having to swap over the optical cable everytime I use a different device.
Cables I'm currently using are:
DVD - Cambridge Audio Optical Cable & Pure AV HDMI cable
PC - Cambridge Audio Optical Cable & Generic DVI cable
Freeview - Cambridge Audio Premium Scart-6PH
PS2 - Cambridge Audio Optical Cable & PS2 composite/Scart cable
Xbox - Cambridge Audio Optical Cable & Xbox Advanced Scart
360 - Cambridge Audio Optical Cable & 360 Premium HD AV Cable
Yes I'm using a lot of Cambridge Audio gear... but it does seem to offer good quality/price. Any opinions/advice on how I should setup my AV receiver very much welcome!
...And one final question. I have been looking at 'all in one remotes' as I've now got far too many of the damn things! What would you guys recommend for under £50? I saw the Cambridge Audio M1+ for £30 in richer sounds. It looked nice and shiney but is it really any good...
