Setup guide / regedit

Normally the client will disable your CPU's SSE and SSE2 optimisations on the next run, if it isn't shut down properly. -forceasm overrides this and locks these optimisations on. It can be useful because it's annoying if your computer crashes and it takes days before you notice that you're only folding at half the speed.

-verbosity 9 makes your logfile more detailed, which is useful if you ever come across any problems because the extra info helps us/Stanford track them down.

Neither will make your client run any faster in normal operation but both are good as 'set it and forget it' measures. :)

Another flag you could add is -advmethods. This instructs your client to only download the latest WU fresh out of BETA. This can sometimes give you a better output if the WUs are good. However as some of us seasoned veterans will know this not always the case!

A few months ago the -advmethods WU were very poor scoring and took ages. Whereas those NOT on -advmethods were getting 600 pointer WUs that finished in just a day or so!

Having said all that it isn't much of an issue at the moment since most people seem to be using the SMP client. Although for the time being it seems that the Linux SMP WUs are better than the Windows SMP WUs :D

Yep :D Finally got all this VMWare stuff sorted out. I'm pushing it with 1GB of RAM but it seems to be making about 200ppd more than the Windows client. Now to investigate scores in native Linux.

Weee looks like my guide is still useful.

Ugh which reminds me, I need to reinstall Ubuntu. Gawd, so many things I am going to have to tweak all over again :(

Oh, so I shouldn't use the regedits?

You should use -forceasm and -verbosity 9. As Billy says, there's not much point using -advmethods as it can be activated in the normal preferences anyway.
