i setup it up for the first time on display port and its all great but things lag on screen like when moving or dragging folders and going into websites so not sure if i have done everything right.

just need to know if there any settings i need to change when adding this type of monitor in place of a standard 23" one which was via HDMI not display port. im playing games now and it seams like im going in slow mode or slowed down and my gaming was fluid before the change?

165Hz Samsung G50A Odyssey

thanks for any help at all on this.

Did you change the refresh rate in windows? Within display settings. And are you using the leads that came with the monitor or third party ones?

i do have my 2nd monitor still set up as extended display but its only 23inch monitor at 1920,1080 res. so a ton smaller than this, but mainly use it for surfing and watching videos etc

and after i leave the monitor for a while or stop playing on the keyboard and mouse my monitor turns off and i hear a noise on the pc like when i USB device is unpluged or something and also windows explorer crashes now and then and all this since i put new monitor in :(

try running cmd as admin and run sfc /scannow to find any windows issues just in case before we go to extremes. Also merry christmas :)

thanks i tried that and it came back with these results

Is your gpu and cpu powerful enough to output 165hz?

Edit: Just seen you got an rx580. You going to be struggling to get 165hz/165fps on that gpu unless you lower the in game video settings. If your fps is a fair bit below 165fps it would look you are lagging due being below the refresh rate.

i cant even afford the crazy prices for a new gpu either so i guess would i be better off just lowering the refresh rate down to 60hz or something in windows settings!

As your monitor has gsync, you just need to enable this in the nvidia control panel. this will allow the monitor to drop it's own refresh rate to sync with your games fps. the lowest it can go is 30hz/fps. So as long as your above 30 fps gsync will work and you should be having a smooth experience.

Your biggest issue depends on what games your playing as that monitor is also 1440p, which for a RX580, is a hard resolution to push let alone 165hz/fps.

Gsync exists solely to provide smooth gameplay with low input lag at (165hz) or below (30hz) native refresh rates. gsync is your friend.

edit: i meant freesync as you have an amd rx580. my bad.

do you need an nvidia card to use the gsymc ?
Yes you do, and the OP has a Radeon RX580.

It may certainly be worth enabling the AMD Freesync option as in many cases they are compatible.
