Severe sound echo from mic...

So I play games using a headset, but the issue persists even in just a normal skype call.

The headset I have is a SteelSeries Siberia V3 and I use the standard mic from it, but whatever I try to do I will always echo, which is as we all know annoying as hell to everyone else... The only thing I can possibly think of is sound leakage/bleed but I can't see why, for 1, and 2 have no other idea of what it could be whether it's something to do with my settings or not... it's getting on my nerves now too.

Any help is appreciated!

Not being insulting, but is your microphone channel unmuted in the sound properties? Also, is your recording device set to Microphone and not Windows 7 sounds / "What u hear" ?

Not at all Amraam! I shall check that tonight and get back to you (at work, bit of a slow day so far).

On my old PC (which was Win7) all I had to do was uncheck some 'mixer' or something in the same drivers (Realtek HD Audio or w.e.). My current system is on Win8.1, though doubt there'd be any difference in the software. Once I've had a look I'll get back to you on here, and thanks for the recommendation!

No worries mate. By default, the audio mixer for microphone is not muted, but IMO it should be as most people don't want to hear themselves when they talk etc. Also, make sure the +20db boost is enabled also.

Will do pal. That said mind, I don't hear myself in my headset, just I know I'm echoing :/

Can't really say for sure if I've fixed it or not, but I believe it's because I had speakers plugged in on rear-panel, headset on front.

My headset would still work even though I believe the settings on the (ROG) Realtek HD thing was set primarily on speakers. *The echo always occurred even when my speakers were off.

I selected the headset to be the primary out and I could actually hear the difference in sound immediately from my headset, as well as after doing a couple of small tests in TeamSpeak, my friends couldn't hear the echo. I'll get some people on Skype to check it tonight as that's easily more prone to echo!
