Afternoon all.

I have suddenly got a bizarre and rather worrying issue. I have Coretemp set to start on bootup, and I'm suddenly noticing an intermittent problem whereby my i7 930 cores are spiking up to 89 degrees during boot into Windows.

They cool down to normal idle temps (32-38) about 10 - 15 seconds after my desktop appears.

They never spike to this level again, and if I shut down and boot up again, the problem doesn't repeat itself - It only occurs when the PC has been off overnight, or for longer than a couple of hours.

I had my H50 out of the PC for a week or two while I tried an air cooler, and put it back in about 10 days ago - the problem has only been occuring since then. I'd added some fans, and yesterday became convinced that the issue was because I had the H50 pump and a single fan, running from a single PSU fan output via a splitter. So I changed it so the pump is running on its own from the PSU output - but to my suprise this didn't solve the problem.

I wonder if the pump is giving up the ghost??

Any thoughts?

What temperatures do you get under load?

I wouldn't be surprised if its just an error in the reading and nothing to worry about - as long as load temperatures aren't too high.
