SF4: Unlock new chars?

I've bee playing it since yesterday, and I've managed to unlock a few colours and actions, but I've been unable to find out how to unlock new characters, how do I do this?

Yep, beating Seth with Sakura took a LOT of tries, did it in the end tho.

Stick it on easy and go to one round matches and 30 second rounds.
