SFF-8087 to SAS/SATA forward breakout

Are there 3Gbps and 6Gbps certified cables? I have a forward breakout which I hooked an SSD to in order to test throughput and I'm only getting 250MB/s which makes me think it's running at 3Gbps?

Older LSI based controllers will do 6Gbps over SAS, when you use breakout cables to SATA you double the drive count, but halve the bandwidth, so they run at 3Gbps. Also they don’t tend to pass TRIM, so you may want to hook that up to a native controller.

What if you mix sas and Sata drives? Do they all just run at 3gbps?

On a single channel with mixed drives? I doubt it. On a per channel basis, possibly. Either way SSD's on that controller is not a good idea.
