id like a machine that could sit on the front room table with my sky hd box so as its in the front room it'd need to be almost silent. id like it to be linked to my 40 inch tv and another monitor in the corner of the room so i could do normal word docs and surfing whilst the other tv is on. does this sound easy also the machine would need to run dx10. how small can i go and what price can i get it all for.

this is not a random spec me ive got loads of money thread id really like to make this a reality in the next month or so. budget is about £2000 for that i need the rig, os and some peripherals ie wireless kb and mouse and some speakers.

hope you guys dont mind me asking in here i got kind of left behind in general hardware.

I will give this a go but with a sff case, I dont know about the whole dx10 cards, why do you need dx10?

Not sure if the gfx card will fit but will do some research into it... let me know what you think

I'd decide on the case u want first then go from there, Shouldnt think you'd need to spend as much as 2k for a top end build though, tops 1-1.2k.

Have a look at some of the Silverstone cases, the build quality is A1 and they wont look out of place in a front room :)

(Sugo, Crown or Lascala Series)

"I dont know about the whole dx10 cards, why do you need dx10? "

New build with big budget.
Theres no reason not to go DX10.

looks nice but im sure i could afford 4gb of ram. also dx10 to run the latest 3d games, plus id like to be able to play on the 40 inch tv ill be getting. those silverstone cases seen awsome. would you recommend just using their cooling or would i be able to to watercool as well.

cheers stelly and kezmo for looking into this for me.

He has included 4gig of ram :)

rotters.....i have a 3.2hgz e2160, 4gb of ram, 2x500gb hard drives, an asus xonard d2 soundcard, 2 optical drives and an 8800gtx in a lc17b. its definately possible and the case is very quiet sitting under the tv. not much louder than my ps3 anyway:)

Quiet and Gaming don't really go hand in hand, especially highend gaming. Personally I would go for a shuttle. a G5 or a P2, G5 is quieter but P2 can support duel slot gfx cards and 3 harddrives.

A utility like speedfan will help you optimise fan and temp ranges. you can actually get them wisper quiet.

It would be a good idea to avoid very high end components like quad cores, low latency or high frequently ram and bleading edge gfx cards. would probably be best to wait a little while for the lower process gpus to come out. Not only would they be cooler but they are single slot :)

mine is lovely and quiet  all my case fans (2x80's at the back, 2x92's at the front) spin at around 1000rpm, my cpu fan spins at 600rpm (120mm) and the psu and 8800gtx well...they are both very quiet as you probably know. its easy to build a quiet pc, you just have to get the airflow right and use the right components:)
