My fabulous ship
Personally I preffered DOA 4's fighting styles, you could purposely string together combos where as with SF IV its more of a "what ever goes together" which is usually a flying kick to start with depending on the character you choose.

what do you guys think about this? I liked the fighting variations of DOA4 where as SF IV feels a little linear.

DOA is a game I've never been able to enjoy, And thats not because I wasnt good at it. I was. DOA4 is the same. Games such as Street Fighter, KOF, Tekken and soul calibur. I much prefered them all. I don't know why I never clicked with DOA, It's a fantastic looking game with some amazing characters. Just never happened for.

the doa series is absolute **** :o

tekken and sc are much better 3d fighters. sf4 has a much smaller moveset but its a lot deeper than you give it credit for. its very popular for a reason and why the formula has not varied too much since sf2.

the only thing that doa brought to the table was walled stages which adds to gameplay and smashing people into different sections of a stage which just looks nice though im sure mortal kombat did this ages ago :p

how do you mean "deeper"?

was it tekken that brought about reverse moves? I cant be sure but I know doa used it a lot and I dont think sf iv really used that technique

I agree with tekken being a better game but tbh the last tekken was launched some time ago now (for the ps3 I mean) I think its the combo system I preffer. I dont care for fancy gfx etc etc, just what you can do with the character. Although I do love fightnight with drink

deeper as in theres more to the game than just jump in with an attack and then freestyle your combos because that doesnt actually work and isn't a 'combo' :p

doa is the fighter most known for its fancy gfx and big boobs, that kinda tells you what that game is all about.

if you play them casually though, all the 3d beat em ups are pretty accessible so take your pick :)

You say that but at present Heipatchi is probably more annoying than Seth for me :p

Whenever i play DoA i just button mash, it seems to work and unleashes some combos. Sure a good player would decimate me but i'd like to see someone even pull off a 3 hit combo in SF4 without some knowledge of the game.

Much less structure to DOA games than any other 3D fighter I have played. Like ojste says they are not proper combos like other beat-em-ups. Also button bashing gets you further in DOA games than other titles.

DOA4 is possibly the 1st game I ended up buying and then selling on my 360, shame as I bought the Arcade stick for it which ended up getting used for XBLA SF2 Hyper fighting.

DOA, to me, is a poor, sexually repressed man's, Virtua Fighter.

DoA is my favourite fighting game series, I don't play competitively or anything I just enjoy playing the odd online game / unlocking the characters.

DOA4 was the reason i bought my 360 and DOA3 was the reason i got the original xbox :) i see why people think its shallow but thats just because of how easy it is to pick up and play, put someone new against a pro and there is a massive difference tho

Show me a noobie who'll actually do that and i'll give you 100 pence! Seriously, when my non-computer gaming mates get their hands on a controller it's 'mash every button and direction as fast as possible and i must surely win'. That actually creates the ocasional combo in doa due to the adaptive combo thingie, in SF4 it just results in the character looking like they're having a fit.

It's the first thing my mate did when he picked up the pad!

My friends have an ounce of intelligence though so they immediately noticed the lp comes out really fast and everyone know you do a kick when you jump. :p

haha yup, my mate plays as Akuma whenever he's round, the button mashing technique releases his ultra every match with out fail

Thankfully he usually initiates it when he's on the extreme side of the screen so easily dodgeable

crunchmans mate: (thinking) "its time to activate the devastating demon super...." *bursts into a fit of spasms*

crunchman: aha he is doing the demon super! time to jump!

Personally for me I wouldn't even compare both games seeing as its a 2D vs 3D arguement, and I enjoy both of them anyways.

Street Fighter IV is just plain old-fashioned 2D Street Fighter with fancy 3D graphics and some new gameplay features and other than that, most of the game is the same thing many of us have known for the past 18 years or so.

Dead or Alive 4 and the whole series in general, I like it because of how fast paced it is. Although I do get extremely annoyed with how cheap the the counter-system is and how it takes off ridiculous damage and of course the stupid retardedly difficult final bosses. But ever since Dead or Alive 2, I really love the way the game looks in its artstyle, and especially how it uses and interacts with the multi-tiered levels, some of which are the most detailed I seen in a fighting game.

Really though, I like all of the main fighting games and each of the 3D ones, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Dead or Alive and Soul Calibur has their own attributes and mechanisms which I like to try out and adapt to.

SF4 is my favourite by far, but I was always a die hard SF2 fan.

DoA4 is something I could never master. It's like you need some kind of extra sensory perception to be able to counter your opponents move.

DOA was fine until 4 when they (imo) messed up the counter system requiring you to counter mid level kicks/punches by pressing forward + counter

DOA 3 was great with it's back + counter for the relevant move :)

As much as i like SF4, i do prefer Tekken because i feel like i'm more in control on how the character moves. And the moves flow much better for me.

lol so true! I was that girl in blue dress (forgot her name but I was awesome with her) one time I flipped over a guys character and said "cant catch me" jumped just before he was about to hit me again and said "cant catch me!" flipped over him AGAIN! and said "catch catch me!" and when he was about to punch me again I countered him..... honest to god I never heard a grown man scream with anger so much in my life lol he left the room after 2 rounds.... I was expecting more from an mlg pro player lol but my serbian friend was creased laughing. I loved how you could watch the fights while in que
