Its been 3 years since ive looked at building a new rig and currently in the process of doing just that.

Im interested in getting a slightly smaller case because of the space restriction i have.

Im looking at getting the i9 13900kf or the i7 13700kf going with a z790 mobo and board. Im also keen on getting a 7900 xtx as it seems a better bang for buck card than a 4080.

But what power supply would i need, 850w ideally for sure, but pcie 5? what specs etc. My heads exploding with rubbish from too many sources.

You don't need ATX 3.0/PCI-E 5.0, a high-end XTX might use 3x PCI-E 8-pins (the Nitro does) so make sure that you have enough connectors for 2x EPS12v and 3x PCI-E 8 pin, since not all PCIE5 PSUs do, as they assume you'll use the 12/16 pin.

If you're fitting this in a compact case, you are aware that the multi-threaded power consumption of the 13900KF and 13700KF is very high, right? The 7800X3D or 7900 non-X are lower at full load.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,135.87 (includes delivery: £11.98)

The case is going to be smaller so i need to go with the SFX or SFXL there is no space for the full ATX. Appreciate the power hungriness of the CPU but the draw of power and cost is not prohibitive on that side of things. Just want to make sure that the PSU i get will work and go with everything perfectly.

Lian-li do an 850watt gold SFX. That should run that system. The tricky bit will dumping the heat from the case quickly enough. You’re looking for as much wind tunnel as possible.

Case will still have 9 fans in it, its the Lian Li mini, only takes the SFX. Will have a look for the Lian Li sfx shortly.
