First to Market! OcUK once again with the sharpest pencils

Coming soon to OcUK and available to pre order now, the 600W SFX Modular PSU from Silverstone is pretty much the most bad ass SFX on the planet.

announced a while ago and featured heavily in nearly every tech review sites computex coverage, this thing has the SFF community buzzing. With ratings usually not even seen on full size units, this supply is perfect for small builds with power hungry GPU and CPU requirements.

Perfect for the Silverstone Sugo range as well as the upcoming Parvum ITX chassis, the SST-SX600-G is a technical masterpiece.

Available for pre order right now, we are expecting stock over the coming weeks.

Silverstone Strider SFX 600W Fully Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply (SST-SX600-G) @ £99.95 inc VAT

After releasing the breakthrough SFX power supply in 2012 with the ST45SF-G, SilverStone has pushed the technical envelope even further with yet another industry defining design in the SX600-G. This small form factor PSU has the exact same dimensions as its predecessor but its power density has increased from 567W per liter (in the ST45SF-G) to 756W per liter. The result is a standard-sized SFX PSU with an incredible 600W of continuous power, a level that is capable of supporting any single graphics card system with ease.

Besides the power increase, the SX600-G comes standard with flexible, flat modular cables similar to those in the PP05-E short cable kit for vastly improved cable management in smaller cases. It also has added semi-fanless capability that was first introduced to SFX PSUs by the ST30SF so its quiet running fan can remain turned off during ideal low load or idle conditions for complete silence. As before, an ATX adapter bracket is included to enable users to install this PSU into any small or even larger cases that do not have SFX mounting holes. For the most ardent SFF enthusiasts, the SX600-G is truly a dream come true that combines the convenience of SFX size and all the top of the line features one can expect from high-end ATX PSUs into one product.

Christ, I paid not much less than that for the 450W version last year. Fortunately my Titan isn't complaining so I don't need to upgrade just yet.

But hopefully with this beast on the market we can see case manufacturers drop the rubbish of supporting full ATX PSUs in their supposedly small cases and get back to what SFF is all about!

Cool, now you can get a smaller case & have a decent GPU in it. Besides the 1 slot, the Element Q has more options now.

You always could get a decent GPU in a smaller case - a good quality 450W PSU (i.e. the Bronze and Gold rated Silverstone units) will power most modern, single GPU graphics cards without hassle. It's just a case of getting the card into the small case.

I guess I rage a little at the size of contemporary Mini ITX cases because with a little forethought (and a dremel admittedly) I got a Titan, i5 2500, Corsair H60 and 2 2.5" drives into a Silverstone SG05, perfectly powered, perfectly cool and generally pretty quiet (unless gaming at full whack), so I don't understand what's so tough and why things like the Prodigy, Corsair 240 and the bigger Lian Li Q series.

My SG01 is good, just the thought of a Element Q with a decent GPU (without the need to mod the case) sounds awesome IMO. Heat may be a issue though, with just 1 slot, making dual width GPUs a no for the case. I have a prob. with focusing on 1 thing way to much. Just wish I could stop, my case now looks good.

oh yes, finally a new semi-fanless sfx, do we know what temp/power level operation is fanless up to? if not ill wait till johnnyguru tears it apart :D

just noticed its rated for lower temp than the SFX 300W semi-fanless, 40C instead of 50C hopefully that doesnt affect its efficiency in more cramped and hot conditions too much

looks to be fanless to 45 degrees, nice :)

Not heard that one, Edward78, but after using my 450W Gold I can tell you right now there's no chance in hell the 600W will ever be fanless so I don't think internal temps will be an issue.

My very informal "touch and see how hot it is" test shows that it's burning hot, just like my fan modded ST45SF-G. This makes me feel better about my fan mod, which feels about the same when loaded. One interesting thing is that the casing gets hot enough to melt the hot glue I used to mount the fan on with.

If you need more than 350w it's Silverstone or nothing tbh.
The SST-ST45SF-G I had gave me no issues, but the noise also depends on how much load you put these under.
Mine was ~200w draw under gaming load with an R9 270X and was totally silent.

Mine whines without load at idle, it's only silent when gaming. Seeing as I listen to a lot of music and spend a fair amount of time on the net the noise is infuriating.

RMA it?

My ST45SF has no whine whatsoever.

But is yours the Bronze-rated unit or the ST45SF-G Gold-rated unit? Because the latter went through a few minor revisions.

The V2 had some capacitor tweaks inside to prevent coil whine and a capacitor on some of the cables to further assist (which makes sleeving and custom cables a pain). Fan noise never got resolved though.

I think my V2 Gold 450w has run at around 350w maximum, and I can't pick up any noise from it unless the case is open and I stick my head right beside it (and even then not much). Admittedly my case isolates the PSU so it's got its own source of fresh air, but I don't think you'd have any problems with the V2 450 unless you got a bad one or you were really pushing it.

My V2 450 can spin the fan at a good speed when I'm really pushing the Titan, but that's just fan noise in a Sugo SG05 with the fan directly facing the outside. I'm sure it would be more quiet if it was buried inside the case better. But I don't get any coil whine or issues - that was dealt with as of V1.1.

I have to say my 600w has a bit of whine - but it's very quiet and almost supersonic it seems, when I have my permanent headset on I certainly can't hear it :p
