Hi,

I'm deliberating on a new SFF system - stuck on the case but I keep coming back to the SG05/6.

What sort of noise comes out of the PSU? Noise is more important to me than size, so if it's pretty noise I might forego ITX and try to get a quieter mATX system.

The rest of the system will be comprised of an i3 2100 and either onboard or passive gfx (5570).

I can *just* hear it from 8 feet away when sat on my sofa when there's no other noise, but imo the front case fan is louder than the PSU fan so I'd worry about that first.

Get a Lian-li PC-Q07 or Q11 and a fanless PSU.

Plonk a decent low profile air cooler on the board like this, this or this.

Fan from air cooler also cools PSU no other fans required = super quiet SFF PC.

Cheers, although I've already rules out the PC07/11 as they're not as compact as the SG05/6 and would probably look at mATX that being the case (no pun intended :p)

Thanks. What about under load, or when warm etc? The front fan I'm not too worried about as I can always mess with it - don't really want to have to buy a new PSU though if it's too noisey :)

What about going totally fanless with something Zacate based? Means you can go with a pretty much fanless case and no graphics card. It's not like it would end up majorly slower than an i3 and HD5570 anyway.

When it's under load and the PSU is going some, I'm generally playing games so I can't hear it :). I haven't truly tested it out yet though so I can't really advise on load noise.

I've never heard of that Zacate, looks good tbh!

It's AMD's answer to Atom, but instead of having just a reasonable performing CPU, you get graphics to rival most low-end HTPC solutions bundled as well.

Even if you don't think that's enough, i'd go with Llano instead. Llano is 2-8 Athlon cores mated with integrated graphics that are even faster than Zacate.
