Thinking of moving from onboard to external GPU, i think based on paper the Amps on the 12v are around 22 on this psu and the spu needs 24, would this really matter?

According to bit tech, the 550 Ti is only 2 watts more than the 5770 that I have and that runs fine, using about 260w total

I only looked at idle load graph , in load it is 43w more, so it must be very close to the limit. Maybe you could underclock it a bit if required ?

Sounds like a plan.... What is your overall rig spec as this will be sandybridge and i3 2120

So im (hoping) overall watt powerdraw wont come near 300w.... I wont be OC'ing CPU at all...

At the mo its Zotac Z68, 2600k @4.4, 8gb vengence, 5770 and ssd, but it always changes !!!

I think it will be fine, I ran an i5 2400 and GTX 460 on my 300w PSU with no issues.

OK well ive built it

Got a 550TI

Overclocked to 1000mhz.

Seems to perform really nicely. CPU is 2120 mobo is gigabyte.

Im pulling no more than 160w from the wall!! so with 80% efficiency rig must only be using around 130w which I cannot believe for the level of performance.

This figure is taken while running heaven in perma loop.

Temps on CPU hover round 55 - 60. I have turned off all CPU power saving using stock fan, replaced thermal paste with mx4.

Thinking this will be fine till nvidia do the die shrink then put another single PCIE GPU in there

Literally amazed at how efficient it is.. Just waiting for 240GB SSD to arrive now to finish the build off

Got to be a more effective way to mount that SSD so it doesn't impede airflow.

I don't know the case, but I'd look at unscrewing the SSD beam altogether so front fan isn't obstructed. Then mount SSD on the side supports somehow, or on the bottom between motherboard and front fan.

Yeah, not sure it needs the beam, I could just then mount on the base of the case in the tray.... Thing is it all runs really cool, GPU mobo and CPU so heat is not a major issue, maybe if I upped to the 450w psu and a 560ti heat may become a prob...

Taken advice, bent tray up and mounted SSD using industrial grade velcro onto the side of the PSU. Airflow should be great now.

I could mount SSD on underside of the folded up plate, that is the other option, will see how hot it gets on PSU but I cannot see it being an issue as PSU wont be straining that hard...

Managed to undervolt the memory to 1.2v (this)

And CPU to 0.975 in BIOS which shows as 0.99 in CPUZ

Stable in prime95 for 30 mins.. Really impressed with SB

Your braver than me sticking an expensive SSD to a PSU. As my risk perception would be worried about warmth (although you say not an issue), shielding, and potential of PSU blowing if suffer power spike and alike.

Personally I would have stuck the SSD on the case base so underneath the 120mm front fan. Or if room was available out from the fan, but not touching motherboard. With Velcro to cushion it from case and stop it sliding about if move case. But it might not fit, hard to tell looking at pictures.

If you mount on the bent over bracket, is it directly above CPU cooler?

Ive moved it to the middle of the case, it is roughly over CPU, but im now undervolting the CPU to 0.97v and its running super cool... Plenty of airflow through the case.

I have the same case but with 450W PSU. Same MoBo and MSI GTX 550 Ti Cyclone 2 OC.

Stripped it back loads mate, I did manage to get a 260 in there, now running a560ti, ill try and post some more pics. lovin it
