Hoping to get the time to make a SG06 build in the next week. Not too sure on the graphics so would appreciate some advice. Top of the range graphics will not be needed but it will be used for some gaming at 1080p resolution. Ideally I would be looking at balancing power consumption, noise and performance along with working within a max budget of £600 but my mate would like to have a copy of windows 7 in there for that also - I told him that might be pushing it really but hey who knows!

So far I have the following:

Silverstone SST-SG06B = £91.91

Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz = £105.59

Gigabyte GA-H67N-USB3-B3 H67 = £91 from elsewhere

Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA-II 64MB Cache = £65.99

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (presuming 4Gb RAM) = £79.99

= £428.66 including W7

So have around £170 to £250 for the rest but I would need to offer a good reason i.e. significantly better to go for the £600 and then W7 on top line.

So the questions are out there for anyone who'd care to offer some suggestions - any recommendations on RAM, Graphics (again not max needed a balance of price + noise + shiny goodness), and for the DVD I might just get an external USB I think unless people would really advise against this. I would also be interested if people think a 3rd party cooler would really knock the noise levels down and if so which one they'd recommend. No monitor, keyboard or mouse is needed.

Depends what gaming really. The CPU will handle basic games on its own.

Check second hand for bargains to stay in budget.

He is mainly into WOW at the moment but does play LOTRO also and is planning to play SWTOR (which I am not expecting to ask to much graphically over LOTRO from the screenshots).

Cheers for the quick reply by the way!

I would look at the Silverstone Sugo SG05BB-450 which has a 450W PSU and costs around £106. The SG06 with a 450W PSU will cost around £124.Also a faster hard disk such as the Samsung F3 1TB is a better choice as a boot drive and is much faster than a Western Digital Caviar Green which is storage drive.

I would look at an HD6850 1GB especially if you intend to stay with the 300W version of the SG05 or SG06.

Hopefully,I will be getting hold of a Gigabyte GA-H67N-USB3-B3 in the next few days so I perhaps I can post some pictures of the motherboard.

A piece of advice: I don't know about the sg06, but the sg05 is much easier to put together if you use a 2.5" HDD. A 3.5" HDD uses a separate cage, which takes up quite a bit of room in an already cramped case.

Also, if you do decide to buy an internal DVD drive, remember to buy one of these:

Yep got one of those everybody is good and says that in every thread to do with the SG05 and SG06. I can imagine its quite annoying not to have one of those arrive and everything else just sitting there!

I'd take a look at Gigabyte memory support list for an idea of brands.

Looking at specification you are limited to 1.5V for memory and 1333 MHz maximum. So unless you plan to recycle memory for replacement build you might as well buy the cheapest going (referring to above link and your personal brand preference).

Would be interesting to know how big the Sapphire 5830 and 5850 are. But I suspect they will be too long , especially if auxiliary power connections are facing out horizontally.

Edit: Or you can order a Sapphire branded 6850 for around £15 more if not fussy about retailor. And avoids having to use adaptor cable to get a second PCIE auxillary power lead if remain with 300W Sugo.

Cheers for that - interesting now that two people have mentioned the 6850 and looking on Anand and Tom's it certainly seems to be a lot more powerful than I would have expected to get in such a build.
