This particular shuttle has no onboard raid,you are correct.

With an SSD though I doubt you'd notice the difference if you were planning a mechanical raid setup.
SSD for OS and apps,then use a large mechanical for storage/games.

2x320gb disks are way cheaper especially as I already have one, that was my main reason for choosing it as I need a huge disk to run my VMs.

It just keeps getting worse and worse, I thought I could use a RAID card in the spare PCI-e port. For a while I was worried it was PCI-e 1.0, turns out its not even that it 's PCI :(
