SGSIII Battery Issues

Hi so my mum has a Galaxy S3 and recently it keeps restarting and when it turns back on it will report being low battery (<5%) However if she pulls the battery out and puts it in again then turns it on, the battery life will return to the original state. Am I right in presuming this is a fault with the battery and not the phone itself?

I can recommend the Anker batteries, bought one for my SGS3 and it's as good as the original battery.

Update so the battery arrived and everything is good now. She conveniently forgot to tell me that the old battery had swollen to twice its original size XD Cheers guys
