Just now I was contemplating why there has not been a Shadow of the beast "3D", its one of the very few retro games which has not yet been brought into the next generation of consoles since its multiple iterations on the Amiga etc.

So a quick google yields...

Cool Starry Bra and all that.

Another childhood game to be screwed? Or will they get it right?

did this title belong to Psygnosis which was purchased by Sony back in 1994? Wouldn't be surprised of this is the game Sony London are working on.

Trying to connect the dots here. but yes, it was a great game in the day.

This was a Psygnosis title indeed.
Psygnosis ended up being bought by Sony (Studio Liverpool etc).

But now I think that site is closed down. So I guess this is a pure Sony developed product.

Great music on the Amiga, looked really good too but it's a shame that as a platformer it and its sequel were pretty poor. Too hard as well.

The music being the most iconic thing about it, nothing realy to screw up reguards a game... be honest it was never that great:)

Not a bad speccy conversion though, great job gremlin graphics.

The game was terrible when it came out, the hype was immense, the sequels were somewhat better . I remember feeling pretty gipped at the ecs show buying a special edition that came with a t shirt, it was really one of the biggest disappointments in all my years buying games, not quite World Cup carnival in 86 but not too far off it.

It was all about the music, graphics and parralax scrolling, gameplay took a back seet in Shadow of the beast! I'd rather Sony resurrected Wipeout for PS4, that would be beyond awesome :)

Shadow of the Beast 2 came with the Amiga 500 I had which was my first computer, so I've got lots of memories of the game.... "10 pints".

I remember later picking up the first game, but it was so incredibly difficult, especially given that I was young and it was near impossible to know where you are supposed to go and do, given that at the time there was no internet help or YouTube.

I believe I only ever played a demo of the third game.

I'm not really sure what to think of this new game, as the teaser trailer is nothing special. A platformer like it was is probably pretty tired these days, so will need to undergo a change. I would think the series is also a game that the majority of gamers have never even heard of, let alone played. The third game was released in 1992, so thats like 22 years between games! It might actually be the longest gap between sequels in video gaming history unless anyone knows otherwise?

The cheat (or poke as they were called then) was holding down the mouse buttons at a certain point in the loading!

Yeah I agree, to dig up an old game like this, it's either going to be an 'HD' platformer (of which there are loads that we don't bother with) or it will be a 3D game that's nothing to do with the original apart from the character and the music.

There were cheats as well as pokes - the poke being code change after a 'peek' at what would need to be changed.

The loading times are what I remember about the game more than anything. Mainly because the game was nails hard and it took an age before you could try again.

I would usually give up and put IK+ on :)

One of my fave game soundtracks ever.
Seems like it would be better suited as a digital only cheapish game.
edit: oh i see it is going to be cheapish, good
