Hi, this should be my last question for this evening :D

Has anyone tried shadowproject? im looking at more robust ways of backing up, and like the idea of being able to mount the backed up images on vmware software allowing you to run the server in virtual even if the real server hardware has died.

Has anyone tried this, or have any views?

Many thanks

I've used Shadow Protect for a while but at this time I would probably go with Symantec System Recovery 2010.

Shadow Protect good software but if you wanted to convert a backup to virtual machine you would need to load Shadow Protect ISO (boot cd) into new vmware virtual machine and then carry out hardware independent restore. During this restore you'll have hassle trying to get access to where Shadow Protect backups are stored.

With the latest Symantec System Recovery you can convert backup to vmware virtual machine straight from management console (you can even schedule it). All the add-ons to System Recovery are now free. Management Console lets you monitor and control multiple servers and there's add-on for Exchange email recovery from backup images.
