Shadowplay Not Always Recording?

I used to use Plays.tv and loved it because I just knew it would be recording everything I played, but then it closed down. Now I'm using Shadowplay and the best I can have is it recording, but I need to remember to select save if I actually manage to shoot someone in Valorant.

When this rare occurance does happen, quite often Shadowplay isn't recording and I can't turn it on either. Does anyone know what might be stopping it? (I have Discord with it's overlay, if that might be a suspect?)

Look for the symbols in the bottom right to check it is running before launching the game
Have some hotkeys to launch shadowplay, it will save launching geforce experience to start it
if a recording isnt it the folder you expected then check the desktop folder(same directory) it sometimes places random recordings in there

To be clear, it's always running. I press Alt + O and I get the overlay, but it says recording is 'Off' and I can't turn it on.
