TL;DR: I'm redoing the gravel in my back garden is shale or smooth gravel/stones better?
The previous owners of the house I'm in didn't bother putting a membrane down when they put down gravel in the back garden. What this means is that there are weeds everywhere and as soon as I deal with one lot the next is back with reinforcements.
So I've decided to get the gravel re-done properly with a membrane. It's too much for me to do on my own and I'm not exactly knowledgeable in this area so I've got someone in to quote. They recommend shale over gravel as they say it's more hard wearing. Has anyone got any experience with this?
