I am thinking about ditching my Legion5i 15inch GeForce GTX 1660 BLACK for MacBook Air ?
Is it worth the gamble ?
Not liking the display on the Legion5i seems very dark

I have the Air M1 and I love it, one of the best tech devices I've ever bought. Plus as a massive bonus I don't have to use Windows 10!

Depends what you need to run on the device really in terms of the OS and software. I will say though that if you don't need to run games and aren't dependent on any Windows only apps the MacBook air is the best laptop on sale just now by a long way IMO.

The price is reasonable at £900, the performance great, the screen good, the battery life amazing and the trackpad/keyboard about as good as you'll find on a laptop.

I am intrested in the brightness in display image ?
Not really for games

Spec i am looking at is as follows

MacBook Air (M1, 2020) 8-Core CPU and 7-core GPU, 16Gb RAM , 512HD

The Air screen is rated at 400 nits brightness but I think it measures at 360 under testing. If you want to use it in direct sunshine it won’t be bright enough.

Where to you use the Legion 5i that it’s not bright enough? Any laptop should be fine in the home and office.

I would have kept the Legion 5i but the display i find is very dark and alittle disappointing as i like a bright screen

You can purchase the Macbook from Apple and if you don't like it just return it, you get 14 days to basically try it. It will definitely be a change from your current laptop.

I think that spec comes with the 8-core GPU but either way, I don't think it'll compete with your Legion for gaming although I think it'll do everything else better. It's a fantastic bit of equipment. I now use my Xbox for any gaming these days and I use my MBA for everything else. I upgraded from a Asus TUF gaming laptop (i5, 6gb 1060, 512 SSD etc.). I don't think you'll be disappointed as long as you remember that they are very different devices.

And if you like it, you can always return it and buy it cheaper from Amazon :)

Not everyone gets on with macOS but you get a fortnight to give it a go. You may find that you can't adjust to it from Windows but if you get on with it, you'll wonder how you managed with Windows. When I first used OS X, I forced myself not to use Windows at all and very quickly adjusted.

What about one of the new iPad Pros plus keyboard? They're no slouches either and the new displays look awesome.

I bought a Macbook Pro M1 512GB couple of days ago to replace my gaming laptop, I've done with PC gaming & Windows after 20+ years, I've adjusted really well to Mac OS considering i've never used it before.

A slight tangent but may I ask, have you quit gaming altogether or have you moved to a console?
The reason I ask is after (much like yourself) having used a Windows desktop for most of my life, and since 2014 a 13 MacBook Pro as a secondary device when I’m away from the desk, I upgraded to a 16 inch MacBook Pro last year which has since become my main workhorse computer. The only reason I still have the PC at all is for my Sim Racing. Ideally I’d love to replace it with a console but from what I gather I’d struggle to get 120hz+ @3440x1440 on even the new gen stuff.

Rumours of a M2 Macbook air releasing sometime soon, so I would maybe wait it out and see unless you really need one now then go for it

I've moved onto console gaming with the Xbox Series X reason being most games are just console ports, I can play the same games on my 55" TV with 4K,HDR, Ray Tracing & 120hz if a game supports it as my TV has HDMI 2.1 as well with no faffing, noise & heat.

I honestly don't see the point of PC gaming anymore with consoles being as good as they now are with the PS5 & XSX, back in the late 90s early 2000's PC gaming was great plenty of PC only titles being released, which has slowly declined over the years.

I love the Macbook Air, I have been getting all my family members to buy 2015 Macbook airs to replace their cheap windows laptops.

Why exactly have you been asking your family to buy 6 year old laptops? Doesn’t strike me as the best advice ever, however cheap their Windows laptops may have been.
