This is my system

AMD X2 2.6GHZ , 2GB RAM 400+FSB , XFI SOUNDCARD , 250GB SATA 2 , NFORCE 4 DFI , X1800XT PRO.

Now at this moment i can't afford a brand new system to what i want , something like £900+ but i can afford a new graphics card until next year when the rest of the system gets upgraded. My x1800xt is just too slow for me especially struggling in oblivion / stalker / FEAR and having to run crysis in low is just not fun!. Now i know im not to expect huge frame rate increase because of my cpu but will i see atleast a good difference going from a x1800XT to a 8800GTX?

Id say get something cheaper for now like a 3870/3850/8800gt and then when you do a full spec upgrade next year go for the next gen cards that are out then.

But yes you would get a sizeable increase in performance from an x1800 to gtx.

1280x1024 , but i do like the 768 meg on the card the gts's only have 512... I think its something like oblivion and gears of war do prefer the higher memory graphics cards. Plus i have 512 on my x1800xt :D

Not interested in another monitor thanks anyway , it seems the GTX isn't worth it for my res... So how about a GTS over a GT?

I am in the same boat as the OP got a 7800gtx and rougly the same spec in ram and cpu.

I am going for the 8800GT over the GTS as the GT 512mb costs £160 and the GTS 512mb costs £210 for the extra £50 i can't justify the extra performance at my res of 1280x1024.

Plus the £50 quid saved can go towards the next big build.

Please note i did say the rest of the system was being upgraded next year , which does include cpu :D

Anyone got any reviews/benchmarks comparing 8800GT - 8800GTS?

Are you upgrading the monitor though? If not its prob. better to get an 8800GT as it's pretty close to the GTX in lower res performance, plus its cheaper :)

(nope ) Well thanks for all the replies guys , will let you know what i got when it arrives in my house :D

But you have swayed me away from the gtx :p

Which is currently the best GT to buy at this time for overclockablity and price? and why are so many on Preorder

Wtf I have like the exact same system, except with an 8800GTX (Although 1 year ago I had an x1800XT). Even though my CPU might bottleneck the GTX a little bit, I can still play most games on max settings with AA and AF on a 1680x1050 screen. It's wonderful man. Get the card! If you want to save a bit of money then get the slightly less monstrously-powered cards like GT/S
