My maxtor HD's whine is really annoying me. I have limited space in my computer so any help would be nice.

I dont have space for the elastic mod, but £35 is a crapload of money.

Well you could always get yourself a Hard Drive caddy by Lian Li. Thoose can dampen the noise a bit.

But these are probably the best solution to your problem.

But they are pricey, buts it is quite a substantual unit.

Sell the Maxtor, Buy a Samsung Spinpoint.

Are the samsungs that quiet then?

Yep.

The one in my sig is awesomely quiet.

I have it silentmaxxed, but it doesnt need it at all!

Hardly any noise at all even when defragging. Certainly not discernable over any fan noise that a normal system would have.

The silentmaxx enclosures are pretty good they reduce the seek noise a fair bit and also reduce the whirring sound. The good thing about them is that you can swap out the hdd in a few years and stick another in so they will last forever.

Ive got a Seagate barracuda 7200.7 GB and i consider it loud when seeking and also when idle, is the spin point quieter than the Seagate?.
