Shapeshifter not working on intel macs?

I read the existing thread on this and it still doesn't work for me, are there any alternatives at this moment?

yeah in that other thread which i started a guy put a link up to a beta version for intel macs, it worked fine for me, but did cause some apps to hang so now i just dont use it. Using graphite colour theme for osx atm.
