For some reason my server and laptop will not talk to each other any more. I have disabled firewall on server and its not that. I try to access laptop from Server and can't, try and connect to server from laptop and can't. I just get an error message saying I do not have permission but I have got it set as password protected sharing but no dialog comes up asking for credentials. It was working then it just stopped and I cant remember anything which changed.

any ideas?!

can any one offer any help? this is doing my head in.

From server 2008 I can see my laptop, from my laptop (vista) i can see my server. When trying to click on either computer it does not connect. It just says no permissions - which are definatly set up. It was working before and when i clicked on the server a username and password box came up.

I am just about fed up, thinking of putting windows 2003 on my server as never had problems with that before.

Ok, does the event viewer give you any more information?

I had the same issue when i first set up my 2008, as soon as i set it as domain controller it worked.

Can copy a more detailed event log if there is one?

Which event log? I cant really see any relating to this.

Might just try setting it us as domain controller. What is odd is that it was working then stopped, and I have no idea what could have stopped it. I have tried disabling firewalls, I have try moving my laptop on to a wired ethernet port incase it was some wierd wireless router bug, i have tried about everything i know and its still not working.

Assume the file sharing hasn't been turned off accidentally?
Control Panel - Network sharing
Made any changes to security Policy's?

Check the system/App logs for Errors something relating to NETBT possibly just have to scan through and see whats there.

havnt touch security policies at all and cant find anything in logs.

both computers use differnt username and passwords to login but that doesn matter as normally it prompts for this?

losing the will to live lol.

Try and set your static IP to something lower like 1.30

Have had this once before and it was to do with some routers only allowing the sharing between IPs 1-51. Really odd but clutching at straws. Sorry mate,

thanks for your help nick, appreciated. will give it a go.

both my laptop and server change IP to something lower?

OK that was f-ing odd. I did what you said to server, set IP to lower (.10) and from server i can now access laptop. However from laptop I can not access the server.

Shall try renew my ip on laptop.
