Share Folders between laptops

Need a little help.

We have 2 laptops here at home and I wish to transfer my music files from one to the other.

How easy is it to share the music so I can copy it on to this laptop?

Using a cross-over cable (cheap as chips ;p), you will be able to create a very small LAN. From here, you can share folders from one laptop to another.

Yup, just set up an Ad-hoc wireless network between the 2 laptops.

If you have a wireless router, then it's just a case of creating a folder on one laptop and sharing it.

I do have a wireless router - that sounds so much easier!!!

It is easy, create a folder on 1 laptop. Right click and select the sharing options, share the folder and give it a name.

What os are you using?

yup

go to the system properties window to find out the 'computername' for both machines, rename them to something easier if you want

like 'allen' and 'janice' (assuming the other laptop is owned by janice

)

on allen, right click music folder, click sharing (might be properties, then sharing tab), click ok etc and choose whatever options

then on janice, do start, run (winkey + r) and type..
\\allen

this will now show all the shared folders/printers on allen, depending how it's setup it may ask for a username, if so, then type the username and password that allen uses to access his laptop.

We are both on Vista. You can call her Janice, I think I might too now

worth noting..

do it on both (the folder share), and it should sort out windows firewall for you

if you've got a 3rd party firewall, then it'll ask for confirmation etc..
