I've just got my iMac, liking it so far but was wondering how I can share files between my pc and my mac, I've got the internet shared between the two via a crossover cable and I can access the Mac through an FTP program on my PC but is there an easier way of file sharing?

Na I know there is a way where in finder you can click go/connect to server and type in the pc IP address, which should bring up the shared folders, I've been trying this but I can't get it to find my PC even though it is definatly connected because I can get on the internet and look at mac files from the pc

I'm having the same problem lol, sirrel, what did you do exactly? I'm using sygate personal firewall on my PC and I can't figure out what to allow to get it to work.

My pc and mac are networked via ethernet and I can access my mac files via my pc over the network. I've also shared the folder I want on the pc etc, I'm certain it's a firewall thing but I dont know what to do to allow the traffic :(

Any help is appreciated!

I gave up trying to find out how to allow the traffic so I've just turned it off for now just to get it working, going to have a play about tomorrow as don't really want to have no firewall protection

edit/ using norton firewall 2003

The easy way would be to add the Mac or all local LAN machines to the Firewall's trusted zones, the more difficult way would be to open up ports 135-139 TCP+UDP and 445 TCP.
