Startup Mechanic - tells you everything that is booting up at the start and gives you easy access to stop it and what the item does.

CCleaner is fantastic, and it can sort your start-up progs too.

Do the 2 programs you have listed do a better job than CCleaner in anyway?

not used CCleaner or the one above, but fully intend on trying both - cheers guys

star downloader - brilliant downloader, will start as many threads of a download to 1 server, as you spec, so will max out your connection even if the server has a limitper user

Spybot - Search And Destroy
Ad-Aware - This will have the 2007 version which is crap. The previous version is much better imo.

Pidgin - The only IM Client which has made me ditch MSN. So much better without all the rubbish.

Same here. Might uninstall WLM tomorrow. I did once try out Miranda but it kept crashing on me.

Most of the Sysinternals utilities are great:

Ones I use a lot are PsTools, Process Explorer, reg/filemon.

Also a lot of ported linux utils are good: grep, netcat, wget
