Shared files visibility weirdness

Got a slightly weird problem here, hopefully this is the right subforum to put it in... So:

I've got a fileserver running UnRAID (I know - Windows subforum, but I don't think UnRAID is the issue; read on) to which I backup several directories from my main PC (running Windows 7). Having only just set it up I copied my Music folder backup onto the server from the hard drive of my old server. Since I haven't backed up in a while this version of the folder was quite old compared to the one on my main PC so I wanted to get them in-sync. Not being too familiar with the Windows backup utilities I decided to do this the way I've done in the past:

1. Share the folder/s I want to backup from within windows
2. Mount the shares from the server using CIFS/SAMBA
3. Use rsync to archive the files to the server's backup directory

It worked... but there seems to be a single album (that I'm aware of at least) which appeared to be empty on the server following the sync. At first I was pretty confused because on the main PC I can see the files in that folder fine. But since then I've done a bit of messing around and found that:

- From my main PC browsing directly to the Music folder I can see the files

- From the server mount, or from another laptop I have running Windows 7 accessing the share over the network the folder appears empty

- From my main PC but browsing via the network share I also can see the files (but I guess Windows may be clever enough to realise that the share I'm accessing is on the local machine so it is equivalent to the first point above)

So I'm not sure what's going on here... I've compared the sharing settings for that one folder to a different folder which can be seen across the network and I don't see any difference in the settings... Anybody got any suggestions for things to try or where to start?

TL;DR Files in one subfolder of a shared folder appear invisible when browsed over the network (all the other files are fine)

Permissions on the share? check effective permissions on one of the files which isn't showing to the non-original computer (like the laptop you mention)

You on a domain or is this just home sharing?

Just home sharing... like I said I've compared the permissions on one of the non-visible files to a file which is visible and I can't see any differences (unless I'm doing something wrong)... All files have "Everyone" set as being able to read+write
