Hi everyone, I am looking for simple group file sharing over the internet which emulates a typical shared network drive you might have on a local server.

Its for 6 people who want to share file using Windows File Explorer, again just like you would using a local network drive.

I know Google Drive has a plug-in for Explorer which allows drag and drop to/from your cloud storage. But does anyone know of a solution where you can share the drive with other users?

The Google thing looks like a two stage solution, save the file, then go into the web interface and share it.

I want a single stage solution (once you're logged using a plug-in or something).

Thanks

Dropbox may be a good shout as it will automatically sync files when updated, though I don't know how it copes with the same file being open in multiple locations?

One thing to bare in mind though, while all these cloud based services are excellent at what they do, you have no control over where the file is physically stored and who actually has access to it. If it's for confidential data or something your company may not want sharing (assuming this is for work?) then maybe come up with a different idea or look at encryption?

As above the issue comes in when the same file is opened twice. This is where solutions like SharePoint come into it.

I'm only talking about office files, typically under 1Mb, total folder size less then 2Gb.

It would be good if the service tells you "this file is open by" just like you get if you open the file from Windows Server 2008 or similar.

Does anyone make a service based on sharepoint?
