Shared House / Flat Share - Bills how much?

Following on from my last post about agency fees, just wondered how much you pay in bills each month if you live in a shared house or flatshare.

Looking at moving into a room of a 6 bed house in Brixton.

Rent is £600 plus bills are an extra £100 includes weekly cleaner.

Quite modern house, new two bathrooms, garden, roof terrace. Bed room is very large too.

Sound reasonable?

Are you sharing with 5 other people?

If so, speaking purely as a home owner, £600 a month sounds a little excessive for bills.

He didn't say bills were £600. ^

Our gas and electric for april + may was £135 in a 3 bed house. Washer and dryer used frequently, heating was still on then for a couple of hours a day IIRC. Maybe not helpful :p

He did, £100 per room, 6 rooms = £600

Seems like a lot of money.

Weekly cleaner, it'll be a minimum of 2 hours a week, so that's at least £200 a month.
6 bed and 400 in bills sounds resonable to me. In fact with a cleaner it sounds cheap.

Council tax is going to be almost £200
And ii imagine gas and electric on there own for 6 people is going to be up around £200 average depending how much heating in the wringer, if not much heating a lot cheaper. That doesn't leave anything for water.

Thanks for the replies all.

The bills also cover broadband and phone line in the room itself! I believe there is Sky or Virgin Media in the living room too.

It's a 6 bed house, with 6 people living in the place, I'll be the 6th and final person.

So would you say £100 sounds reasonable?

I rent with 2 other friends in a 3 bed flat all double rooms. We pay £175 each in rent and £90 for bills each (Council Tax, BB, Water, Gas, Leky). That is a month and not a week :) Welcome to the midlands.

With in reason bills should be a little cheaper with more please living in the same place (E.g council tax split 6 instead of 4). Sounds like the landlord is making a bit of money on the side, but I don't know what the norm is for London.

As a student without having to pay council tax etc and in a six bed house my bills are Water/Broadband (Virgin 120mb) about £13 per month & Gas/Elec is every 3 months, during the winter months more but I'd say it averages £25 per month.

Weekly cleaner, it'll be a minimum of 2 hours a week, so that's at least £200 a month.
More likely it'll be 1 hour per week to clean communal areas. Rotating areas.
And cleaners more likely going to be £10 an hour, no cleaner charges £25 an hour.

Doubt they'd pay for someone to come and clean everything every week.

Most cleaners have a two hour minimum.
Ands aren't we talking London here? Even bristol is 10-15per hour.
However a quick google seems to say London is cheaper, maybe becuase it's less traveling.

Either way I dont think the £100 a month is far from unreasonable. Assuming that includes council tax, gas, electric, water, cleaner, virgin, tv license.
If anything it's on the cheap side.
