Shared living .. (pointles moaning)

Secondly, they want to know the ins and outs of where I'm currently living which I'm going to have to lie through my back teeth over considering what my landlord is up to.

Sorry, but that's plain wrong.

You must realise you are aiding and abetting a benefit cheat? That must be a criminal offence. Be honest and if he gets in the **** then that'll teach him the lesson.

Welcome to our current economy. It's such that many many people don't have to work because they live on rent coming in from properties they bought when prices were rock bottom and are now quids in simply because of the boom. Not because they have worked hard, simply because of the boom. Many are ex council places that they paid bugger all rent for because they were on benefits, then they paid bugger all for them due to right to buy and now live like kings on the rent. Youngsters who work hard and earn quite a lot now can't afford their own place and basically fund their lifestyle.

Bitter? Yes I am thanks.

It's easy to say but look at the options..

I cant afford to rent privately, 1 bedroom places start at £500 pcm + bills in this area.
Council housing, as I explained above I've got to lie to get myself on the waiting list or risk the consequences.
Shared accomodation, not likely to be any better off than I am now.

I am doing something about my situation, but being an honest single male on low earnings I cant help but wonder what is the point. I'm not looking for handouts, I just want to be able to support myself and feel comfortable in my accomodation.

Can't you move in with family until you can save some cash to buy your own place?

I picked up a form to register for council housing today and two things really get my goat on it.

First they want to know how much money I have in savings so they can ADD the figure to my income to make a total. WTF? I scrimped and saved £2200 over the past year

Why should the council subsidise your living when you have cash which you could use? Thats why they ask.

save some cash to buy your own place  , people that are on high earnings are struggling these days to get a mortgage and the op is on a low income so he ain't got a chance in hell unless he spends the next 10/20 years saving up for a deposite.

Its not that that bothers me. Its the fact its added up to make a total when I've still only earnt £11k and not the £13k that they're suggesting. Granted some people will have more but in my own circumstances £2k isnt going to go very far atall. I dont earn a lot, I dont spend a lot, I've done the sensible thing of saving what I can and it seems its being used against me. That's what I get for being responsible - I may aswell not bother.

I know how you feel mate, I earn a fair bit more than you but still have to live in shared accomodation, I can afford to live in a nice arpartment but it will leave me with no money to bank or play with and I just don't like living like that, saying that even my one room is a £100 a week, the rate the landlords charge these days is crazy seriously.
